Don Shoor!

Director and Dramatisation:
Alok Rajwade

Original Story by:
Anton Chekov

Synopsis:

Don shoor is based on Anton Chekhov's short story - Overseasoned. Two unknown travellers; one of them is a  bullock cart driver and one is a bank manager who has just arrived in the village. The play is about their journey.. a night journey.. in a bullock cart. They are completely unknown to each other. They have their set ideas about how the other person will be. Every person has his own fears and insecurities. This play is a comic take on how two completely unknown people project their fears and insecurities onto the other person through their set biases. Its almost a game to prove who is the most fearless and strong, hiding inside, the all encompassing emotion of fear.

Director's Note:

Fear makes us do things which cannot be explained rationally. And at hindsight, we laugh at those actions!
This story by Anton Chekov depicts such actions by two travellers on a lonely road. Adapting this play and directing it was a fun journey, quite unlike the journey of our protagonists. Building a life-size bullock cart, finding believable situations and fleshing them out was an unforgettable experience.
