The writer is extremely fond of dogs and has had a pet dog for many years. However the strays in the city, their growing number and the way this issue is handled by the local authorities was something that troubled and intrigued him. Om shared his thoughts with the team and we all were extremely shocked with the intensity of this growing problem. This was the beginning of Who let the Dogs Out. For our basic research, we contacted the local municipal corporation for information and insights. We even accompanied them on a few visits to actually catch stray dogs. As our ground work deepened, we as a team found it extremely challenging to find the correct structure for the play that would do justice to the gravity of the issue and at the same time portray it in the correct context. We were very lucky to have a team of extremely talented actors and we came up with a very interesting form. The process of this play has been a great learning process for us as actors and has also educated us from a social perspective.
